Over to Vaucluse

Patrons turn out for soca and dancehall battle

There was rain in the forecast last Saturday, but that did not stop patrons from heading out to Vaucluse, St Thomas for the latest installment of Mashup Reset.

Dressed in sneakers and wellingtons with their coolers in tow, many came fully geared up for an epic battle between soca and dancehall.

After a slow start, the venue was totally hyped by 8 p.m. as deejays Surfrat, Salt and Don, DJ Psalms, the Vibe Nation duo of Andwele and Reko Chase, Hutchy and Sizz and Boom Mafia, which comprises of Sheldon Papp and Blaqrose Supreme, kept the energy level at a maximum.

Soca was clearly the favoured genre of the night as patrons showed off their whining skills to the vast selection of Barbadian bashment and Trini soca.

In the end, the place was mashup and a good time was seemingly had by all, despite a few grumbles about the change in location from the Wildey Great House, St Michael to Vaucluse and about the shift in the date of the event from January 1 to almost month end.

That being said, the majority of patrons endured the muddy St Thomas conditions right up until the 2 a.m. finish, with many already eagerly anticipating the next Glitz Entertainment event.
