Marzville soars

Soca artiste flies Bajan flag high in T&T

He has already surpassed many expectations this carnival season in Trinidad and Tobago, but as Fantastic Friday approaches, soca sensation Marzville is looking to take the Barbados flag to even higher heights.

The man behind the hit song Give It To Ya is the sole Barbadian to make it to the finals of the International Soca Monarch competition, which comes off on February 9 in Port of Spain, after Marvay did not make it past the semifinal stage.

He will be competing against 11 other finalists, including Aaron Duncan, Ambi Asten Isaac, Yankee Boy & Rikki Jai, Blaxx, Farmer Nappy, Jadel, M1, Orlando Octave, Rome, Turner and last year’s monarch Voice for the grand prize of TT$300, 000 (BDS$88,000).

Marzville, whose real name is Omar McQuilkin, was in high spirits following the announcement. He told Bajan Vibes he was extremely pleased to make the final cut, while revealing that his social media platforms have been flooded ever since with congratulatory messages and all kinds of advice from members of the local entertainment fraternity.

“To realize now [that] I am the only person representing Barbados [has] put a heavy load on my back, but I am going to try my best to make the country proud,” he said, while promising to deliver the same high quality energy that his adoring fans have come to expect and appreciate.

“I am going to give the best show I can possibly give . . .  and make sure I can represent Barbados to the best of my ability and the Caribbean,” Marzville told Bajan Vibes.

With preparations already on the way for Fantastic Friday, Mazville said his entire family circle was hyped up and ready for what is yet to come.

“My mother keeps telling me do what I do best and my father said, ‘it is all in your hands right now’,” the Bam Bim and Gas It Up artiste said, while stressing, “I going to make sure to represent Barbados to the best of my ability and hopefully make them more proud than they are now”.
