Major power outage

A major power outage is affecting the island.

It was just before 3p.m. today that several sections of the country were plunged into darkness.

However, by 4 p.m. electricity was restored to parts of the City, including Parliament Buildings, where the swearing in of the island’s eighth Governor General is currently taking place.

“Our crews are continuing to work safely to restore power in the shortest time possible,” the Barbados Light & Power (BL&P) said in a statement this afternoon.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

BL&P also advised that its personnel were working to determine the cause of the outage.

“Customers trying to call the company may find the telephone lines busy. Light & Power will provide updates on the situation via Facebook.

“Light & Power assures their customers that they are working to restore power as soon as possible and as safely as possible,” it added.

What is the Barbados Government doing about the telephone system that no calls can be made when there is a power outage. This is a very serious problem, not even an emergency call can be made.
