UPDATE-Man remanded to prison for the murder of Rihanna’s cousin

Murder accused Shawayne Dashawn Williams, who was arrested and charged for killing 21-year-old Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne, of Lakes Close, Eden Lodge, St. Michael, appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today and was remanded to prison.

The 23-year-old White Hall #1, St Michael resident is due to reappear in court on January 31.

The late Tavon Alleyne died mere hours after spending some time with his superstar cousin Rihanna last month.

Alleyne, who is the cousin of Barbadian superstar Rihanna, was walking through a track near his home on Tuesday, December 26 when he was approached by a man who shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

The victim was rushed by private vehicle to the state-run Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Since then Rihanna has added her voice to the chorus of calls for an end to rising gun violence on the island, in the wake of 30 murders, including 23 that were gun-related last year.

Whatever I just care about the fact the murderer was caught whether the victim is Rihanna’s cousin or not. The point is a murderer is off the streets. Not walking bout de place like he ain’t kill a man.

Well i hope that the same interest that law enforcement has shown in this matter, that they give to all the others unsolved murders.

@gsmiley January 3, 2018 at 6:25 pm “jealousy consumes Bajans like you.”

How is it possible to be jealous of a dead man? Young Mr. Alleyne is dead, dead, dead, and he will remain dead for many, many years, maybe thousands of years, maybe hundreds of thousands of years.

    • gsmiley January 3, 2018 at 9:40 pm

Poor you Helen. It is so plain that I meant jealous of Rihanna.

But i suppose you couldn’t understand.

He’s only remanded to prison because he’s ri ri cousin but any other person that commits a murder is walking free it’s total nonsense

  13. gsmiley January 3, 2018 at 9:45 pm

Ian Edwards stop talking ignorance. How many murder accused get bail the same day?

The accused will have to apply to the high court as is the standard with all alleged murder accused.
Sometimes I wonder about my people.

    Free education.

Young men have been killing each other at a rate never seen in Barbados. What on earth is going on that young men have to resort to this sort of violence. Sometimes when I read this online paper I think I am reading my hometown paper here in North America. Granted the world in getting smaller culturally as the global phenomena takes place. That does not mean that everything negative that goes on in other countries must be adopted in Barbados.
It’s time to get to the bottom of it and try to root it out, young men have become so insensitive and care less about a life it’s saddening. Then the talk about Rihanna’s cousin, this is to demonstrate that no one is immune to the violence and regardless of who you are it can hit home one day.
Wake up people, a new year has just begun time to get busy and make a resolution to help…STOP THE GUN VIOLENCE.

BT is correct. They are looking after their business. This strategy will increase the number of hits received and readership by BT because people who follow Rihannah are likely to come across the story and read it online.

I can see why a lot of you are easily lead. You just don’t have the ability to think logically and much at all. Think before you write sometimes.

  16. nanci January 4, 2018 at 12:09 pm

they going to attach rhianna cousin to this case, that way the guy will get life, or not get a fair trial

  17. Carlisle Norville January 4, 2018 at 2:28 pm

guns don’t have wings if the airport & seaport had the right people & equipment, these guns & drugs would be much less in Barbados. then there is the fact that the millionaires have their own harbor in St, Peter, so them rich, rich, men & women can bring in whatever they want into the island(, boy what liberties they are in Barbados)

  18. jrsmith January 4, 2018 at 3:02 pm

The question ,why nothing is really done about the guns an the killings in Barbados ………… Who benefits from the gun crime , not the fools in DODDS , but the big ups who are protected ……. So long its black on black things will get a lot worst because the crime is only effecting black families …………..
To enforce laws in Barbados to combat crime means , everybody should be targeted, but that’s the problem only certain people would be targeted so its like it , or lump it……………

It seems that comprehensive analyses of subject matter for lots of you is exceedingly poor that is the dicrepancy here. Murder is murder and the laws of the land will administer what those laws are by fair judgement.
