Rihanna reacts to cousin’s shooting death

Rihanna has called for an end to gun violence after her cousin was killed here on Boxing Day.

She’s been paying tribute to her 21-year-old relative – they had just spent Christmas together.

Rihanna added the hashtag #endgunviolence to an emotional post on Instagram.

“RIP cousin . . . can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms!” she wrote.

The message was put up with a photo gallery dedicated to her cousin.

Rihanna didn’t name him, but the victim of the shooting was 21-year-old Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne.

She went on to write: “Never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!!

“Love you always man.”

She also tagged his profile in the series of photos.

In February he posted a heartfelt message under a photo of the two of them together celebrating the singer’s 29th birthday.

“Your presence in my life is a source of joy and happiness,” he wrote.

It’s believed Tavon was walking through a track by his house in St Michael when he was approached by a man who shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Police are currently on the hunt for the shooter and have asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers or the District ‘A’ Police Station.

Gun crime has been rife here recently with police confirming a significant increase, with 22 out of 28 murders committed this year being gun-related.

Cory Legall Same way how Snoop Dogg could have meetings with those in power about police brutality towards blacks, she could invest time and effort into reducing gun violence in Barbados if she wanted to. And the reason why i say that, is because she has the financial backing, and has made her presence known all throughout the world. So if she had to call a meeting with parliment, they would not have a choice but to accept because she is 1 of our own and has done more for Barbados than Barbados has done for her. So if she wanted to make a difference, she could.

Bim Bajan Bardashian If everyone had that mentality about all the hurdles one must overcome in order to gain a particular goal, nothing would be done. So rather than sit and tlk all over your face about the hurdles, at it from a different perspective. And if bringing electricity to Africa was an easy fix, it would have been done already, and alot faster. But at the end of the day it all comes down to mindset. If you in yourself want to accomplish a particular goal, you will.

Bim Bajan Bardashian My solution to the problem is educate those who im in touch with that violence solves nothing, and its better to walk away than engage in violence. Its not much that im doing, compared to others but its better than doing nothing. I may not do it on a big platform, although im pretty sure if i did it would have more of an impact. But i am but 1 person with no financial backing, or worldwide presence, so therefore my voice will not be heard or considered on a large scale like that of a well known celebrity. But if for instance someone of Rihanna’s caliber were to speak up about it, something would be done about it faster dont ya think? Not pointing at her and saying she herself has to fix it, but its kinda hard to overlook the fact she could if she wanted to.

I have to agree with Antonio on this one. So much crime and violence in the country and the only time concern is expressed is when it “hits close to home”. And we have to gusto to say “we’re all family!” She was here for crop over when those nuisances did what they did and I can’t remember her being this vocal……just saying call a spade a spade. I endorse her message but it only come because it hit home. Same thing with the hangman. The gallows will only work when some clown endagers the PM or GG.

But here families in a lot of ways stick together just how it should be..Maybe now something will be done about it..But it shouldn’t take people’s lives for something to be done…Yes trouble is worldwide, but when it’s such a small island as this ,it needs the tourists to keep coming to Barbados …as it’s a beautiful island..and people have loved coming here for many years..So something has to be done if you want Barbados to keep its reputation….

Young and older people are getting themselves involved in many things, hoping to get rich quick, we do not know the situation. A man shooting another that many times, means there is something deeper that caused it.Unfortunately, we do not deal severely with the persons bringing guns into the country, we deal with the users.

Also sad to see all the angry comments above with people finding a reason to be aggressive to one another . This same intolerance between the youth is what is causing all the violence .

Let’s all look for the good in people and see if by being tolerant , polite , courteous and forgiving we can start changing things even ever so slightly. A good rule to follow is always treat your fellow man how you expect to be treated .

I wish all above a great holiday season and a prosperous New Year.

This one shows how envy and jelousy can be transported today. Instagram ; facebook and all the like are used as tools to damper people’s progression or to inflict hurt for personal gain. Beware !Watch out ! Be smart and conserve your privacy for your intamate friends and family! Envy has no color or barriers sis!

Heart felt condolences to the families and I wish that those who are just waiting for the next murder to happen so they’ll get in on the act by spouting a load of s###e because they are talking though what they should be sitting on would just shut up,Ri Ri don’t have to look at Barbados but she loves where she’s from !! The Government of Barbados and the Opposition Government needs to get serious hanging back on the books.Barbados is on the brink dogs will be eating dogs very soon Tourists all over the world is watching and are avoiding Bim like the plague!! I’m not a proud Bajan and I would not encourage anyone to visit still a beautiful island but WOW the criminals has taken over.

Can I ask a few questions to locals? Aren’t guns prohibited in Barbados? Are there other factors that have cause this surge in violence? And this far, have the shooters been locals? Haven’t been to this quaint island in a few years but I never met a single stranger there.

@, Linda Dear , hail, hail , your (12:36) this says so much and would be the feeling of most decent bajans……….
@ T-Kay Pinx Simpson , hail, hail your (1:32) well said , must add who do we really point fingers at for something to be done , there is no one who is accountable to the black masses in Barbados for anything , its like it or lump it …….The only persons hurting from the gun crime is black Barbados , as every where its black on black that’s why nothing is really done………………………………..

I am a proud Barbadian living in Boston USA. That being said, I have reletives living in Barbados who may not agree with what I have to say but, too bad. If it is my destany to die at the hands of some senseless, ignorant bums who have no respect for human life then, I would rather die on the streets a forign Boston than on the soil on which I was born and love.
Don’t know what happened to Barbados but, I am becoming more and more shameful of telling people where I was born and groomed. Guess, as the old saying goes. THE INMATES ARE RUNNING THE ASYLM. Pittyful!!

Condolences to you and your family RiRi! Got to stop gun violence in Bim, got to get tougher on the traffickers and perpetrators! Victims and families of victims pay for the rest of their lives, while these assholes pay little or nothing in time for their actions. Time to hang and forget about Amnesty International and prisoner rights’ b.s. This does not need to be a debated, it is obvious that there is little or no justice for victims of this type of crime in Barbados.

Rihanna cannot cure all of Barbados’ ills. She has been great ambassador for Barbados and has donated to many causes. She lost her cousin. Stop talking about why she hasn’t spoken out about ending gun violence. She cannot be the savior of Barbados or the world. Backup off of her.

I was born and raised in Barbados, and strongly supported the island while living abroad. I have recommended bridal parties, conferences etc. to have their functions there, but I will no longer do that. I am fearful of even visiting there, and I am constantly worried about my mom & relatives on the island. The lil thugs there think they are Jamaicans & urban ghetto Americans- all places larger than Barbados. The ruling government is on the level of corrupt African countries, and the court fails to provide realistic punishment for the crimes. The parents of these thugs need to be charged as well. Where I reside, no one talks about visiting Barbados anymore. It has dropped off the radar, and now this incident has hit the international stage, forget it. Who wants to spend their hard earned money to visit a place to be killed?
