No bail for man accused of causing serious bodily harm to another

A 34-year-old sales clerk will spend the next 28 days on remand at HMP Dodds.

Carlo Demetrio Briggs, of Station Hill, St Michael, is alleged to have caused serious bodily harm to Patrick Ward, with intent to maim, disfigure or disable him, on December 8.

However, he was not required to plead to the indictable offence. And, when it came time for bail, the prosecutor, Sergeant Rudy Pilgrim, objected, based on the serious nature of the charge.

Pilgrim told Magistrate Douglas Frederick that Ward was currently warded at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital “with a measure of brain damage”.

Briggs, who had nothing to say today in his defence, was therefore remanded to the St Philip penal institution until January 10.
