High surf advisory and small craft warning in effect until Sunday

The Barbados Meteorological Services has issued a high surf advisory and a small craft warning for the island

The forecasters say large waves and dangerous currents will create unsafe conditions for small-craft operators and they have strongly advised sea bathers and other users of the sea to stay out of the water.

The Met Office explained that a deep-layered low pressure system has been generating large swells over the Central Atlantic.  It said some of the swells are propagating southwards across the Lesser Antilles and are forecast to affect coastlines around Barbados over the next few days.

The activity is expected to persist into late Sunday and may become even more adverse at times of high tide.

The high surf advisory and the small craft warning will remain in effect until 6 p.m., Sunday December 10.
