Perfume thief caught

A 31-year-old woman, who stole three perfumes from Cave Shepherd, has been sentenced to six months in prison.

Kesha Melissa Fiona Marshall, of Wellington Street, Nelson Street, St Michael, went into the store on the afternoon of December 2 and stole the Victoria Secrets body mist products, costing $167.97.

According to the prosecutor she placed the items in a shopping basket and then proceeded to the second floor of the establishment.

However, a short time later she returned, leaving the basket in the escalator. The security guard on duty became suspicious and stopped Marshall as she made her way to the exit.

A search was requested and the items were found in her bag.

Marshall, who is known to the court, told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant her last charge for theft was in 2014.

She claimed that she had been trying to turn her life around as she is the mother of a young son who is scheduled enroll in school next month. She also explained that after a long search she was finally able to land an interview for a job this coming Thursday.

“Give me a chance to get my life together. I trying my best to stay out of trouble,” she said.

However, the magistrate pointed out to Marshall that she was last before the court earlier this year and she was also known for committing such crimes.

“Ma’am the last charge was before you but it wasn’t nothing to do with thiefing,” Marshall said before she was sentenced.

This is ridiculous isn’t anything that’s me more important than a perfume thief’s this is so pretty a bottle of perfume cost about £2.50 to £5 to make the only reason why perfumes are so expensive is because one they have to pay for the glossary and media affect the pain the models they also pay for the Colour and the design of the bottles but the contents itself is very cheap Google it look it up my husband this is so backward

167.00 barbados dollars not £s plus here the mark up 400% anywhere else price would be way under that amount. Sad she can’t stop and has a young son very sad. Maybe she was going to resell product for money to help with expenses for Christmas or son starting school. It’s going to get worse around here

Maxsteel, that’s why sometimes I do not comment on such issues, because if you know a person really well, and what they give, then to come and read some of the sorry feelings that some persons express, it would boggle your mind. But, I hope that sooner rather than later, she will take stock of her life and turn it another direction and tell herself it’s time for a clean up.

  32. Alwin Griffith
Alwin Griffith December 5, 2017 at 8:00 am

It will cost the tax payers more than $167 per day perhaps to feed, guard and “house” her. Community service of say 2 or 3 months should be the order of the day.

    • Elaine Vanhuis

why prison, why not get her a good counselor, someone who would help her get in touch with her true self and hence, remove her desire to steal. Transformative justice, not punitive, it is not working.

I agree to a point but if a person knows all they facing is a lil community service, they would never stop stealing people things

    • Alwin Griffith
Alwin Griffith December 5, 2017 at 2:41 pm

That would depend on what form the “community service” takes. Examples: cleaning windows at the hospitals, cleaning transport board buses (inside and out) to name but two, whilst wearing appropriate clothing with ” Doing Community Service” emblazoned on the front and back. I am sure I can get a few volunteers to supervise.

  37. kk December 5, 2017 at 9:33 am

to all those who like to criticize about how people look for their ages please try to be a little sympathetic. Sometimes the things people go through assist with the “pulling down” of their body, i don’t know her story but yes she doesn’t look her age, don’t let that be the issue, instead study this: A woman get 6 months in jail for stealing perfumes (alright) and a decorated policeman kill a whole man and leave his son with a bullet in his head and paying for groceries in supermarkets like any other LAW ABIDING citizen.

  38. Concerned Citizen December 5, 2017 at 10:21 am

The government has lots of produce planted at locations; community service in the production of food crops, weed control and debushing through the Ministry of Health can be productive ways in which this young woman can perform her services to country and honorable citizens.

My take on this is the law is the law stealing is against the law the further generation is looking on and watching did someone put a gun to your head to break the no so consequence have to follow same with the rules at school our children should learn to follow the school rules they break them should be punished if this world are not kept in order what happens later down the road???

She has a young son. What example is she for her son? He son will grow up choking and robbing because his mother sowed sour grapes and his teeth is on edge. The apple doesnt grow far from the tree.
What is wrong with you people? She should serve 5 years.
She was not even stealing for for her son to eat. No sympathy for her what so ever.

  54. Vanessa December 6, 2017 at 7:34 pm

This I crazy a big strong good woman why would you do this after all we all knokw its hard out there but perfume that not going to sit well with the judge you should of leave the stuff and pray that you have life but out seams smelling good is all for theifing

  55. steve December 8, 2017 at 11:24 am

I would have given her community service but the problem is that it seem to be a repeated offence . Tax payers that already grossly over taxed still have to support her up there. At least with community service the country would be benefitting rather than paying . The more she steals the more community time so the tax payer benefits on account of her being a thief. Eventually she will realize she is the only one not benefitting in the equation.
I would rather my tax dollars be spent trying to teach her a skill than supporting her in prison in these harsh economic times.
