Hunte steals chocolates valued at $5.50

A 58-year-old man, who was released from prison four days ago, was today sentenced to 12 more months in Dodds.

Well known thief Anthony St Clair Hunte, of Headley’s Land, Bank Hall, St Michael, pleaded guilty to stealing two chocolates worth $5.50 from Dollarwise Incorporated on December 2.

He entered the Swan Street store around 2 p.m. on the day in question and was observed by a security officer putting the confectionery in his pockets.

Hunte reportedly told the guard he was hungry; hence his reason for taking the items.

However, when he appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today he explained that he had a drug problem and requested drug rehabilitation.

Before sentencing him to prison, the magistrate noted that Hunte had amassed quite a history of theft.

You have a point here. I am of the view that some of these guys deliberately carry out these small acts to get back in “safe haven”, upon findng out that life outside bars is not so rosy and xmas time in Dodds is a breeze.

This kind of dumb rationalization of spends has been going or for years. I remember a guy from St. Vincent came to BIM illegally. He attempted to leave and go back through the airport. The Bajan authority arrested him, put him in jail and then paid to deport him to the same place they stopped him from going a year earlier….. pure morons.

I need to go visit Dodds one of these days , perhaps( a bucket list item) and see that wonder , that place has to be humongous- Just so! they send you up there for the slightest reason , no call in; (RSVP) to see if they have any available accommodation to place you …what is the apparent capacity of the monstrosity?, any idea of the square footage?, well I know it is under 166 square miles ? ……lol

Truth be told ; we imported and employed a legal eagle that won’t fly. After all the hullabaloo. We still have about 7000 cases in back log. Won’t it be easy to establish a small claims court like “judge Judy” and get these type of cases quickly through the system at minimal costs ? ..institute social services for many who need not go and live free. …People are using this deadlock to frustrate others in gaining justice- “owing money and saying ” ……put me in court”..knowing that it won’t see the light of day for the next 7 years or more, ….like it’s a long term loan. this case is simply ridiculous, if I was the judge I would do this in chambers and bar the press.

What is really wrong with these magistrates though, and don’t tell me about the law. Chocolates at $5.50 and you sentence this man to more than 12 months. Don’t these magistrates walk around, don’t they shop, or they are just chaufferured around in cars Barbadians will probably never be able to own, and them the magistrates if not for their jobs would not have a Mercedes. Do you not know how life is outside your bullet proof glass, were you always affluent, and it also amazes me and I take special note of the judges that do that and then allow rapist, pedophiles, and bad boys on the street, Bajans wake up. If this magistrate or any of them was my buddy I really would have to ask wtf though, seriously ,
