Walker denies stealing lumber from church office

A 54-year-old man, accused of stealing $299 worth of lumber from the East Caribbean Conference of Seventh Day Adventists on November 15, has been remanded to prison.

Ron Ricardo Walker, of no fixed place of abode, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant to the charge.

Sergeant Cameron Gibbons objected to bail on the grounds that Walker had no place to live and also had over ten prior theft convictions. The prosecutor also submitted that there was a need to protect the society from the accused.

However, Walker, who was offered bail in the amount of $1,000 after making his own application, was unable to present a surety in the No.2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court.

He returns to court on December 28.
