Pope on cocaine charge

A 28-year-old man, who spent a month on remand at HMP Dodds, was released today after his surety verified his address to the court.

When Shamar Alexander Pope appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on October 1 he was listed on the charge sheet as having no fixed place of abode. And after he pleading guilty to having an apparatus for the misuse of cocaine in his possession, he had no one to stand bail or to verify his address.

Today he returned to court where he presented a suitable surety to Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant and it was revealed that Pope lived at Sobers Lane, St Michael.

Pope now has to visit the Probation Department for a pre sentencing report
and must also adhere to a 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.

He returns to court on January 9 next year.
