Disappointing seniors’ pageant

The Miss Senior Sweetheart pageant came off last Saturday but various organizational glitches made the event an obvious disappointment for the audience which scarcely packed the venue at the Barbados Hilton.

To begin with, the event started late as persons listened to the biographies of the panel of judges which included Kadooment Band Leader Of The Year 2017 Kevin Small and chief judge, organizer of the Miss Big and Beautiful pageant, Tonia Husbands.

Then there was only one person entered in the Crop Over section. The entertainment that followed next could be described as a version of karaoke as many of the contestants carried their own keys and appeared to be out of tune and pitchy.

One contestant left members of the audience speechless as she attempted to render the song This Place by Joaquin Brewster. She was out of breath and pitchy throughout most of her attempt.

The spectacle left one wondering whether persons who performed in the special category as well as entertainment, were reviewed prior to them going on stage.

The stand out performance of the night was the eventual winner Wendy Newton who did a dramatic interpretation of Don’t Cry for me Joanie. Half of her face and attire was that of a female while the other half was in male attire where she answered Joanie’s calls and messages.

On a positive note, all the contestants were beautifully attired in the formal section with many wearing elegant ball gowns which were simply stunning.

The proceeds of the event went to three local charities: The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSCPA), Fishers of Men and St Catherine’s House of Hope.

It is hoped that with the competition now in its sixth year, there would be improvements going forward so that patrons can truly have value for their money in all aspects.

First of all the writer nerds to get her facts straight the show was a Sunday not Saturday, second you mentioned one highligh of the show which is also not true. Maybe instead of listening to hearsay you should have actually attended the pageant.

There is really no need to be so vicious…look at the positive side of it…This beautiful lady MS Morella took hr own money and financed this beautiful pageant to give females of all ages a chance to come alive on stage for a crown and a chance to go abroad and compete she was not looking for professionals she was looking for people who wanted a decent chance……when females reach the age of 40 and over in Barbados people believe there is no more life for them but this beautiful human being called LADY Morella gave women like me a chance to glow and reguardless to this vicious message i felt like i was in Hollywood I WAS A QUEEN….you made this seem like it was very horrible…….Stop being so bias….and be more encouragabe…God bless you

I prefer when people are fair, I attended that show and same way you can sit and write all the negatives write some positives as well. I’m not bias sure they were some faults and low points in the show but they were also some high points as well. (Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but in rendering those opinions be fair.

Please give the senior’s a chance this article wasn’t kind at all, seniors have a right to enjoy themselves, may be the keys were not right or the songs were not compatible with the voices, but this is what makes it fun,I thank all who participated, because they had the courage to be part of the pageant.

May I say this was the 3rd year for the pageant NOT THE 6th as a reporter you were NOT listening when we say welcome to our 3rd year
Talent need no comments they did the best they could and a lot better than you as a reporter, it takes a lot of courage to stand in front of any one and do talent singing or dancing
The show started late by 30 minutes this is Barbados it was not a big issue
You need to give up your job as a reporter if you could not realize that Barbados being of the countries in the world with the second oldest residents and therefore pageants like these which included the senior are needed and especially when 100% of the profits went to charities

To the person that wrote this article, it was not a disappointing show and I believe many would agree with me.

Out of tune or not . These persons had the courage to step on that stage and show what they could do and I can better that you don’t even have the balls to do what they did. So Instead of starting with negatives try to start with the positives.

And you need to get your facts right because I am most sure that I heard them say it was the 3rd year the pageant has been going on.

PS. This was a beautiful pageant and congrats to all contestants and Persons who took a place. You all are beautiful and you all are winners.

There was No Need for a article like this that was dedicated to pulling down this pageant. Yes there was some technical difficulties but ya all didn’t had to go right into it.
Ya all didn’t even post about the winners from different categories beside Wendy Newton who is the Senior SweetHeart Queen if i remember the title correctly.
What sort of journalism is this??? I could’ve done a better story.
From the Photographer Point of View.
Besides having some Technical Difficulties the show went on well. Look at that photo with the ladies in it that I take which ya all can give Credits to #JAMARPHOTOGRAPHY246
Do you see any negative vibes on their faces No. Stop using Failures/Negativity as Stories and Bring out the Positivism

Jamar, that is journalism. The writer provided a transparent report on the production and if it was of a poor standard do you expect the journalist to say contrary to this by only speaking of the good? It is to give readers an accurate account and that was done.

It is sad and disappointing that this reporter would have to have to lack of intelligence to make a comment about this pageant being late. The pageant started at 5:30,In a small island such as barbados it would be disrespectful for the pageant owner to have started without all the contestants being present. The audience was well attended. This reporter is being very ignorant. Obviously it doesn’t take one much education to be a reporter. This pageant has never received any negative write up in the last 3 years in any known newspaper in barbados only positive things were ever said about it. There has been no outside commerical companies that sponsor this event. This pageant was put in place to give the older Community and now serving also the younger crowd the opportunity to compete in a pageant and an opportunity to go overseas with accommodation s paid. Negative people never get far. This reporter is a sad one God bless u.

To whoever that wrote this article, shame on you. You’re basically making people lose confidence in themselves. This is a pageant that is giving people the opportunity to show what they can do. Plus they said they were giving back to 3 (THREE) charities !!!!

    Please get your facts straight.
