Man accused of stealing cassava arrested

Police have arrested and charged a Christ Church man in connection with a case of theft, committed on Friday, October 13 at Mount, St George.

Arrested is 37-year-old Roland Romel Layne of #2 Edey Village, Christ Church.

Layne is accused of stealing 80lbs of cassava from the Sundale Trading Company. He also faces two counts of assault.

Reports are that around 4 a.m. on Friday, Layne was confronted by two watchmen in a field at Mount St George stealing cassava. During the confrontation, Layne made good his escape.

The matter was reported to the police.

During the course of their investigations the police brought Layne into custody and subsequently charged him.

Layne is expected to appear in the Oistins Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 16.

These comments plus the comments on other social media platforms and on some Radio call ins indicate that we now have some of the most ignorant persons in 100 years. The Millennials are so stupid it is a shame. How can anyone justify this nonsense. He was not stealing two pieces to cook and eat. Stealing is his way of supporting himself. Stealing is his business. This is not his first time because they were waiting on him @ 4 am – the time when crop thieves strike. Anyone justifying this man’s actions should be charged with him- that should be the Law- aiding and abetting vicariously a crime. In days of old , a person could be hanged for stealing a horse because a horse was critical to a person as the only mode of transportation. Stealing someone’s crops after they have worked hard to bring said crop to reaping stage should merit severe punishment.

Time to sentenced these thieves to very long terms doing hard agriculture in prison.
It is very hard for farmers to invested live savings in their farms, then for these sort of criminal elements come and steal their produce.
The law must take these crimes seriously, like illegal guns.
They steal produce and sell to the public, creating a health hazard, in that some produced might be sprayed. Selling these stolen and sprayed produce will kill many.
MAXIMUM SENTENCE, FINES AND MAKE THEM PAY THE FARMERS FOR THEIR LOSSES.

I have a friend who is a farmer and sometimes he cries when he goes to reap his produce and someone beat him to it in the early morning hours. After putting in the money, time and labour he is devastated when this happens but he keeps on going. I am so happy to see that one of these midnight reapers have been caught red handed and I hope that he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I just wish that they would put him to labour in someone’s field for the next five years.

Too.much Tiefing in Barbados though. It is a Bajan pastime. Some Politicians tief, Some Civil Servants Tief, Some Supermarket workers does tief a lot of the items and some of the Cashiers have been caught stealing money. Only last week , a worker at Psykey – Psychiatric Hospital was in Court charged with theft of I think over a million dollars. Then you had the female Cashier at BRA who was caught at the Airport with large sums of money and it goes on and one. Barbados is a nation where for some , tiefing is second nature . Many persons justify Tiefing.. A thief from a Thief make God laugh was used as justification in the old days probably started during slavery. The rationale was that those who had wealth stole from the poor to accumulate that wealth sonstealing from them was not a problem and was therefore justified. If yuh working with paint yuh gotta get daubed was another old time saying meaning that if you working with something you should make sure you get some which means taking it without consent. Some workplaces have a policy of searching bags when employees leave the workplace at the end of their workday/shift. The tiefing thing is endemic and deeply rooted in the Culture. People seem to think that they have the right to Tief. It is going to take getting into the heads of people to correct the problem. Tiefing somebody’s lover, Tiefing piece on the side ; Tiefing time at work; Pilferage at the Port, Tiefing photocopies from the workplace , Tiefing by Bank workers – Bare Tiefing does go on and then you add the other white collar criminals who tief real big. The only consolation is that when you catch the thieves , they should all pay for the acts but in this lopsided place, the Big man goes free. This is another story for another day.

If you all don’t know the man, please desists. Somebody say he sells on the highway, the highway is a big place, narrow it down, somebody else says that he tief wholesale and sell retail, if you aint know wait, the truth will come out. Bet he gine be plastered all over the news paper. I aint know but, “Mr. Agriculture” of Brasstacks fame sounds older than 37 years. Wait, wait for the correct news, don’t implicate the man unless you know for sure. I aint know and that is why I begging for a chance for the man character. Let us wait, Pleaseeeeeeeeeee.

My Agriculture has not worked for years, yet he has been able to survive with a wife and two childre.I am related to him and live in the same district as him. He has been stealing from the poor people aroud here for quite somtime. He is a top liar, and knows how to bluff his way through.Meet is grand-mother and ask her about the offer she made to him to work family land.He is no different from the guys on the block, who appear to have chosen not to work.Making contact with VOB ans claiming to be Mr Agriculture is one othe biggest bluffs he has pulled on Barbados. He should get the BLP to bail him out, as the DLP is no good. He has every right to leave home around 2.30 in the morning. He does not have the right to go stealing. He will always be a thief in my eyes. He has a stall at the Norman Niles roundabout.I haveno sympathy for him.A heavy fine would not go amiss.

Smiles ! VOB confirmed that the man is Mr Agriculture of Brasstacks so relax , breathe easy and sleep peacefully and also keep the smiles. I do not think that he realize that he is as much a public figure as any of the moderators on the show. As a public figure there is a certain trust that is placed in you whether you want to accept it or whether you believe it is so or not
As a result, you need to be aware and look to hold yourself to a standard.
