In 1980 in my first appearance in the high court a lawyer tried to confuse me by asking stupid questions, so I finally lost my temper and asked the fool
“have you ever seen a uterus bleed?
    Sir Clifford was the judge
    He looked down and remarked
“No Doctor, I think that counsel has been spared that ordeal.”

This man was a stuffed shirt….. too stuck-up mon.
Nobody didn’t even know he had a voice.
Sir Elliot Belgrave was a better GG and did more as a role model. Sir Elliot never was ashamed to tell us where he came from.
However, may Sir Clifford rest in peace.

arcy perch – there is a major difference between dignity and being stuck up. The late GG always conducted himself with great dignity -something sadly lacking in people today
