Clarke guilty of breaking into clinic, Burnett fined

A 30-year-old man, who admitted to entering the Winston Scott Polyclinic with intentions to steal, will spend the next 12-months at HMP Dodds.

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant today imposed the sentence on Justin Dave Clarke, who was recorded as having no fixed place of abode.

Clarke entered the medical complex sometime between July 24 and 25 after a general worker had secured it.

However, when the night watchman was making his rounds about 3:10 a.m. the following day, he heard what sounded like glass breaking in the rear of the building. Police were summoned to the location and Clarke was later arrested.

The accused man, who is known to the courts, was also ordered to enroll in a drug rehabilitation programme while at the St Philip penal institution.

In another case, Cuffy-Sargeant imposed a $1,500 fine on 52-year-old Kenneth Kevin Burnett of No.33 Retreat Terrace, Black Rock, St Michael, who pleaded guilty to possession of apparatus for the misuse of cocaine and $65 worth of cannabis.

The illegal items were found in Burnett’s possession on October 3 after police arrested him while conducting investigations into a criminal matter.

If Burnett fails to pay the fine in three months’ time he will spend six months at HMP Dodds.

He returns to the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court to show proof of payment.
