Benefit concert for hurricane relief

The Barbadian artistic community has come together to launch the I Am LIVE AID Project, a fully televised benefit concert to raise funds for Caribbean countries impacted by recent Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

A collaboration of regional and diaspora talent and artistes, the LIVE AID project is a regional drive to be televised across the Caribbean to share the stories of those affected by the two killer hurricanes.

It will be broadcast via Caribbean Media Corporation with Trident 10TV on Sunday, October 29, starting at 4 p.m. An objective is to implore all West Indians, in the region and diaspora, and those who love the Caribbean  to donate to the cause.

The show was originally scheduled for September 30, but had to be postponed to allow for all artistes to fully participate.

“When this initiative started, it was the intent to assist our Caribbean brothers and sisters who had suffered the impact of Hurricane Irma. The project had a three-week planning timeline, during which the response for support was amazing,” a release from the organizers said.

“However, as we planned, Hurricane Maria made her devastating impact, widening the need for support to more of our Caribbean neighbours. This increased the size of the project, and catapulted an unexpected response from people in the region, international Caribbean diaspora and people who simply love the Caribbean, all wanting to play a part in the fundraising effort.”

The I AM Live Aid Project will climax with a full showcase at the Bushy Park Racing Circuit. Persons will be able to be part of two activities on the day. Either an evening J’ouvert Experience conceptualized by Aura Experience and Friends and or the Live Aid Concert from 4 p.m.

“An afternoon for the entire family, we encourage persons to come out and make their donation, the registration and entrance fee for the events,” said the organizers.

The I AM Live Project will be supported by performances by a full line-up of artistes. They include Statement, Sanctuary, Lil Rick, Peter Ram, Biggie Irie, Imani, Mr Dale, Alison Hinds, Nathalee, TC, Neesha Woods, Alison Norville,, Lyrical, Brother Glen, D Warrior, Shanta Prince, Mikey, Blood, Nikita, Buggy, Sluggy Dan, Amber Orano, Mylon Clarke, Leadpipe & Saddis, Fadda Fox, and Faith.

Others are Joaquin, RPB, Rupee, TC, Deejays Mikey Dread & Deejay Bon, Alvin Toppin, Dj Diamond, Jamarr The Star, Salt, Vayne, Kirk Brown, Mac Fingall, Freddie McGregor, Romain Virgo, Queen Ifrica, Tallpree, Killa, Skinny Fabulous, Dynamite, Claudette Peters, Tian Winters, Supa Dymond, Splash, Admiral T, Sael, Freezy, Boo Hinkson, Shai Marshall, to name a few.

“On behalf of the collective, we thank them as we believe that their voices will further encourage the Caribbean and the Diaspora to give generously to our brothers and sisters in this their time of need,” the organizers said.

They added: “This effort we see as a long term project and a growing collective of like-minded West Indians who will work together for the benefit of giving help when help is needed by our fellow islands.”

Somebody believe that Bajans have a lot of money…people have been giving all sorts of things including money. I guess who ever is putting on de concert know that Bajans love a party so they see it as a way to make some money for themselves
