Holder charged with robbing tourists

A robbery accused with no fixed place of abode will call HMP Dodds home for at least the next 28 days.

Dennis Anderson Holder will return before Magistrate Douglas Frederick on September 19 when five robbery and burglary matters, some involving tourists, will continue.

It is alleged that the 49-year-old entered the home of Karen Arthur as a trespasser on May 30 and stole $1,500, a bracelet worth $800, and a pair of earrings worth $5 belonging to her, as well as a chain and pendant worth $1,000 and a watch worth $1,000 belonging to Rhea Arthur.

On June 4, Holder allegedly entered the home of Natasha Maylan as a trespasser, stealing US$550 and £$140.

Gina Chieffo-Mazzarelli allegedly became his next victim on August 18. She was robbed of a wristlet worth $500, a pair of sunglasses worth $400, a key card worth $20 and US$43.

A day later, Holder allegedly robbed Kerry Thorne of a cellular phone worth £50 and a digital camera valued at £300.

When he appeared in the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court yesterday, he told the magistrate he was not guilty of those charges or the cannabis possession offence that allegedly took place on August 20.

Sergeant Martin Rock argued that Holder was not a fit candidate for bail, based on the seriousness of the charges as well as his antecedents. He also argued that the accused should be remanded for the protection of society, saying that the Crown feared he would reoffend if granted bail.

In addition to which, Rock said, he had no fixed place of abode.

“That is a lie! The police did that [purposely],” Holder declared, saying that he lived at Lot 7F St Matthias Housing Area.

However, Magistrate Frederick told him that the charges against him were very serious as “these are allegations from a number of people against you”.

“Can you get out of that?” he asked.

“No,” Holder replied.

With that answer, his fate was sealed for the next 28 days.
