Bhana not too pleased with exhibition

Unlike the other Barbados Scholarship and Exhibition winners who were happy to receive the phone call today, Jameelah Bhana was not too pleased.

In fact, the former Al-Falah Primary and Harrison College student told Barbados TODAY she was disappointed not to have won a scholarship.

“I must admit that I honestly wanted a scholarship. So, when I got the news that I was going to be an exhibitor instead of a scholarship winner I was disappointed. But you know. . . . life goes on. It was a little disappointing at first but I feel [great] to say that I won a Barbados Exhibition,” she said.

Bhana plans to study medicine, but she said she intended to take a year off, while she decides where to pursue her undergraduate degree .

“ I decided to take a gap year early up this year when I decided I wanted to study medicine because I was unsure where I wanted to study it. If I wanted to study in England I would have had to take a gap year because of the deadline [to apply to an English University] was last October . . . . I had to take a gap year to be sure what I wanted to spend the next five years doing,” she said.

Bhana is the first member of her family to win an exhibition, bringing pride to them all, particularly her mother.

“My mum was really excited. Obviously, it helps with the cost of tuition,” she said.

Grand Pa too would give his big broad smile if he was around today, as he would sit at the wheel of his 1956 Hillman Minx!
