BL&P restore power to affected communities

The Barbados Light and Power Company (BL&P) has reported a number of outages across several parishes as a result of Tropical Storm Harvey.

During the passage of the storm, which left a trail of flooding across several parishes in its wake, at least three of the utility company’s feeders went out for just under 20 minutes.

“The three feeders would have affected small parts of St Michael, Christ Church and St Philip for less than 20 minutes,” Communications Coordinator at BL&P Jennifer Blackman told Barbados TODAY  this afternoon.

Tropical Storm Harvey passed the island in the wee hours of Friday morning resulting in flooding in several parishes including St Lucy, Christ Church, St James and St Peter, as well as some structural damages.

Blackman said the BL&P dispatched 11 teams across the island this morning to investigate and assess any damage.

“The teams have been dispatched across the island to investigate the various reports of outages that we have received and we will begin work on the restoration work in pockets of areas,” said Blackman, adding that the majority of the reports were “in pockets in the north” of the island.

“All of them should be at their jobs by now. In some instances we know that we have encountered flooding or rain and can’t work in those instances. So all of our customers should be back on as soon as it is safe for our guys to fully restore everybody,” she said.

The tropical storm warning was lifted about 8 a.m. this morning, and following an assessment by the relevant authorities the all clear was given for business to resume at midday. (MM)

Last evening around 10.00pm, we heard what sounded like a pole transformer half-mile away, being blown by lightning, and we lost power. B.L.&P. had our supply restored before 9.00am this morning.
Great job, guys, great job…and Thank You All!
