Bowen closer to triple figures

AUBURN, United States, CMC – Reigning champion Rocco Bowen continued to inch towards triple figures when he rode a double on Friday’s seven-race card at Emerald Downs.

The 28-year-old sealed wins in race one with 3-1 bet Command Authority and in race six with 2-1 choice Blue Law, to move to 91 wins for the season at the scenic Pacific Northwest American racetrack.

He is 42 clear of the second placed Kevin Orozco, with Eswan Flores five back in third on 44.

Last season, Bowen claimed his maiden Emerald Downs title with 110 wins and is well placed to surpass that tally when the 5-1/2 month-long season wraps up September 24.

The Barbadian opened his account over a mile when he carried five-year-old dark bay Command Authority to a half-length win over the three-year-old and upwards.

Silver Chrome set the fractions through the half-mile before Bowen brought Command Authority from off the pace to challenge at the three-sixteenth marker before pulling away.

Bowen’s second win came over six furlongs when he combined with five-year-old gelding Blue Law to trounce the three-year-old and upwards by 3-1/2 lengths.

Blue Law stalked the pace from second, attacked the pace-setter Capital Expense at the sixteenth pole before getting to the front and drawing off.
