Mental outpatient accused of theft

An outpatient of the Psychiatric Hospital was not required to plead to a theft charge yesterday after his lawyer revealed in a Bridgetown court that he was not taking his medication.

Andrew Gabriel Gill of Free Hill, Black Rock, St Michael, who is accused of stealing 12 bottles on beer worth $65.10 belonging to Tiger Rock Incorporated will spend the next three weeks at the Black Rock institution on remand.

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant ordered the 25-year-old maintenance worker to undergo a medical evaluation in order to determine whether he is fit to plead to the offence which allegedly occurred last Sunday.

A report is to be presented in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on August 29 when Gill, who is being represented by Vincent Watson, is scheduled to make his second appearance.
