‘Collateral’ a hit with Rihanna

Local entertainer Shaquille may not have won this year’s Sweet Soca finals, but he is ending his 2017 Crop Over season on a major high, after international superstar Rihanna was caught on video singing his popular tune Collateral on Kadooment Day.

Speaking to Bajan Vibes this morning, an excited Shaquille said he was over the moon when he saw the video of Rihanna singing his song and was still trying to soak it all in.

The video itself has received over 2,000 views and a myriad of comments on Shaquille’s Instagram page.

“It is a good feeling. Obviously, Rihanna is a local superstar. I [am] always singing [her] songs. To see her singing a song I wrote is a great feeling,” he told Bajan Vibes, adding that  his family was probably more excited than he was.

“They were happy as we have a huge set of ‘RiRi’ fans in my family. My mother went back to the United Kingdom yesterday and they were still on the plane when they saw the video. Everyone [from my family] was positing it and stuff so I guess they are happy, he added.

The 25-year-old said that since the video was posted on Tuesday, he has received calls from the around the world about his song, adding that this response in itself was very overwhelming.

“I have been getting a lot of calls . . . Trinidadian DJs have been calling and they are telling me to prepare myself for Trinidad. Some international persons and DJ’s have stated their interest as well,” the Collateral singer said.

As for placing sixth in the Sweet Soca Finals, Shaquille told Bajan Vibes he was still at a loss over the judging criteria.

“I believe that they should show you as an artiste when you finish [performing] where you went wrong. You should be able to see what you did wrong, or what you didn’t do right. I think that I did my best in melody and arrangement so I honestly do not know where I went wrong. I really would want to see what I did wrong so I can prepare myself for the future,” he said.

I totally agree, this song is one of the best songs I heard all season. Riddim, melody, lyrics was on point but hey I’m not how the judging thing goes or people just gone tone deaf in BIM.
Congrats buddy and come again strong next year..
