Small rides away with top designer prize

With a cloud of controversy still hanging over his victory in this year’s Kiddies Kadooment contest, 25-year-old designer Kevin Small has still managed to drive away with top honours in this year’s Grand Kadooment parade.

When the final results were announced by the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) tonight, Small emerged as the clear winner in seven categories, including Best Festival Designer for 2017. Second spot in that category went to veteran designer Gwyneth Squires and third was Marlon Brewster of the Dragonfly Kids Band & Jump.

Small also copped the Presentation of the Year award, ahead of two more experienced campaigners – Betty West and Jeremy Nicholls.

In addition to topping the Historical and Topical categories of the judging, the young festival designer also captured the Best Individual Male, Community Costume and HIV/AIDS Awareness awards.

This year’s top designer drives away with this brand new Mazda 2.

Just last week, Small was awarded top honours in the junior leg of the Kadooment for his Fifth Element Kiddies band – Candy Land 246. However, that decision has not gone down well with some of his fellow masqueraders who have not only questioned the quality of the judging, but have since raised formal objection with the NCF, which is yet to render a final judgment on the matter.

In the meantime, apart from the coveted title of Best Festival Designer, Small drives away with a brand new blue Mazda 2, valued at $68, 000.

I am impressed with Mr. Small. Despite the other members arguing over his win at Junior Kadooment, he made a statement, and kept pressing on. And the results are there to show.

PPl still trying to figure out how Nikita came 2nd in the Sweet Soca, but nobody int protest. However, the word on the street is that she came second because she sang a Carifesta song…but i int no judge, so i int know.

Well done Kevin. So why all the old heads want to take it away? What are they afraid of?
