A grand climax to Crop Over 2017

Thousands of revellers took a while to reach their final destination, but the 26 bands participating in this year’s Grand Kadooment managed to finish earlier this evening than in previous years.

Today’s celebrations came to a fitting end when the final band arrived on Spring Garden just before 6 p.m.

Revellers joined spectators in bringing down the curtain to the annual Crop Over festivities by dancing to popular calypso and soca tunes and partaking in a range of local delicacies.

The last band, which was opened to just about anyone, was under heavy security, as energetic locals and visitors gyrated and danced their way to the final stop.(MM)

Very Nice, to see those enjoying the cropover festival …..what is its history

“one of the Western world’s oldest festivals, dating back to the 1780s’ when plantation workers proclaimed the end of the sugar crop with feasting and dancing in the plantation yards. At that time the end of the crop and grueling field-work was cause for celebration…..http://www.funbarbados.com/crop_over/history.cfm

Shouldnt we see just as many people at the Emancipation Walk, unless you were freed in 1834, you wouldnt be able to jump-up today…… But notice Cropover is a Western World festival but being Emancipated is not as important !! Bcos this proves we are mentally enslaved still

The finale should be some definitive climactic event. A fireworks display (not gunfire) or even a stage declaration. As it is, it is just allowed to fizzles out !!
