Rape accused remanded

A 36-year-old man accused of rape was remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant at the No. 2 District ‘A’ Criminal Court Monday morning.

Trevor Da Costa Hurdle, of 3rd Avenue Ivy, St Michael, was not required to plead to the indictable offence, which allegedly occurred on July 13.

He was also not required to plead to three other serious charges, which allegedly occurred on the same date: entering the dwelling home of Carol Abrahams as a trespasser and assaulting Abrahams and Jewel Johnson with intent to do grievous bodily harm; damaging four dining chairs belonging to Abrahams; and unlawfully removing Odessa Punch from Chase Road without her consent.

In addition, Hurdle is charged with being in possession of two forged $100 bills.

In objecting to bail, Sergeant Glenda Carter-Nicholls told the court that the accused and the complainant in the rape case had been involved in a relationship which ended last month.

The prosecutor argued that given the serious nature of the offences and Hurdle’s history of violence against women, the society and the complainants had to be protected from the accused.

Magistrate Cuffy-Sargeant agreed and remanded Hurdle until August 14.

He aint get bail and the police get is because, one : the police charge sheet was not shown to the reporters as is the norm. I bet this man sheet was shown. Therein lies the problem. There are just “NO STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES”. And there will rise up a king who will not know Joseph.
