Small denies stealing money from tourist

A 42-year-old man will spend the night at HMP Dodds and return to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court Tuesday in connection with a theft charge.

David Sylvester Small of Thompson Land, Fitts Village, St James denied stealing BDS$70 and US$40 belonging to Nick Niederberger Sunday.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Cameron Gibbons objected to bail for Small on the grounds that he is currently on bail for similar matters and that the latest incident involved a visitor to the island. The prosecutor also argued against bail based on Small’s antecedents and the need to protect society from him.

Small made an application for bail before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sergeant in the No. 2 Criminal Court, but it was denied.

He was remanded to prison until tomorrow when the complainant is also expected to appear in court.
