BT reaches out and touches YWCA

The Young Women’s Christian Association’s [YWCA] Breakfast Club for school children received the Barbados TODAY (BT) touch today.

In observance of Child Month, BT donated a hamper of food items to the non-profit organization to assist with its breakfast programme for some 1,300 students from 15 primary and secondary schools from around the island.

“I am actually very grateful; I mean I wasn’t looking for the donation at all, but I am pleasantly surprised, and it comes in at a very, very good time for us, coming into the end of the school term; we find that this period we don’t receive that much donations. This initiative by Barbados TODAY is indeed very timely,” YWCA President Tamita Griffith said.

The women’s empowerment organization serves breakfast from Monday to Friday during the term, mainly from its Deacons headquarters, as well as seven other satellite locations.

The Breakfast Club was founded on January 8, 2007 under the leadership of Marilyn Rice-Bowen, and over the years hundreds of children have benefitted from the programme. (KW)
