Christ Church East honours women

In a simple Mother’s Day ceremony, the Democratic Labour Party Christ Church East branch awarded some of its female community workers for being of service to their district.

“These women are being recognized for not just being mothers but also for being some of the stalwarts of our community,” parliamentary representative Denis Lowe said at the beginning of the ceremony at the St Christopher School.

He said the occasion was intended to honour mothers present and mothers past, and expressed a wish for the activity to become an annual event.

Among the 17 mothers named was the Christ Church East MP’s political worker, Marilyn Bourne, who has two daughters and three grandchildren.

Another was Angela Yarde, a mother of one and grandmother of one. She distinguishes herself with punctuality for events and her sincerity.

Her advice to young mothers is to have many conversations with their children often. “Relate to them, especially in the first few years in the child’s life,” she said.

Yarde explained that because children look to their parents for guidance, “ensure that you show love, not only through buying gifts”.

A mother of five and grandmother of one, Karen Bourne was also awarded for going beyond the call of duty to assist persons in the Christ Church East communities.

Although O’Hara Harris has four children of her own, she finds time to also be a mother to those in need in the community, never turning her back on anyone.

As her legacy, she wishes to see her children to follow in her footsteps and grow into selfless people, willing to be of assistance whenever the need arises.

Myrna DePeiza loves to be involved in community self-help projects and finds time for this, while even undertaking studies in the correct approach to such projects.

In spite of her voluntary work, she manages to have a world of time for her three children and two grandchildren.

Let a woman meet him in his office all dressed up & looking gooood. When she leaves ask her how much respect she has for him, especially if she is “brown” in complexion, the way he likes them. I know women who would not dare be alone with him in a public or private space, either by day or night. He have children? Let him first honour their mother(s). Despicable Dennis, a real menace.

Lowe should take time to highlhighlight mothers who play the role of fathers in the absence of fathers like himself who only make themselves relevant through child support.
