Jamaican remanded to Dodds

A 26-year-old Jamaican national has been remanded to Dodds prison until May 26 on a charge of causing serious bodily harm, following an altercation that led to the death of another Jamaican woman.

Dead is 34-year-old Shockaya Natalya Boyd, who was pronounced dead at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after the stabbing incident, which occurred along Bay Street, St Michael around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

This morning, Tedesha Ann-Juliet Hayles appeared in the District ‘A’ Court before Magistrate Douglas Frederick and was not required plead to the indictable charge.

However, the prosecutor, Station Sergeant Neville Reid, objected to bail on the grounds that Hayles is a non-national. He also told the court that the charge against the accused was likely to be upgraded, based on the outcome of an autopsy into Boyd’s death.

I would not judge what she chose to do to make a living. As Bajans would say “life share out one a piece”
More of concern is that the deceased apparently came to Barbados at her invitation. This is just awful the way she lost her life

Very very sad and the thing tht hurts the good ones always suffers most let mi tell u a true story tht happen to me at a bus terminal not too long ago I was on my phone with my family back home, as soon as I hang up the phone there was a gentle sitting beside me, he asked are you a Jamaican and proudly I said yes sir born n bread, in return he said to me I have three questions for you, I said go ahead. He said #1. Why do all Jamaicans bleach??? I felt so bad but I maintained my composure and said sir instead of me answer ur question take a good look on me n u will get ur answer, he look n quickly move on to #2. He said why are you so violent? While the questions been asked deep down am asking God to allow me to answer him without been upset, and last but not lease his third answer was why almost all Jamaicans that I meet are undereducated?? I took a very deep n long breathe and said sir you notice that I have been referring to you as Sir! He said yes, I said the reason for that is because I respect you as an elder, I said sir in every country you have the good the bad and the indifference, and I would like to tell u tht the way you feel about my ppl are not all true, I said wherever I go I am armed with my dignity n self esteem so I would never bleach my skin, I accept myself for who I am, I said though we have a very high murder rate majority of the killings are ppl who r involved, we r a no non sense kinda ppl who will defend ourselves but we r not all voilent I said sir to your third n final question you are so dead wrong about us we are a great nation with lots of intelligent n Brite ppl, we boast the three tops Universities across the Caribbean in fact most of the brightest from Barbados studies at one of them so don’t come around with that. Do you know tht after our conversation the man said I now have a different thought about you now, and you cannot blame ppl at times because some of the images been created by my country men/women are very negative. But I refuse to let their doings reflect on me.

Ms Marlene maybe you should read my comment carefully..I said I wouldn’t judge what she chose to do..I didn’t say you were judging. And neither did I mention you. As a Jamaican you have a right to be concerned but as you said their doings won’t refect on you, from your comments you carry your flag with pride and that in and of itself is an honour

It’s just simple Jamaicans are not passive ppl… we are very defensive which nothing is wrong but when u let your emotions get the better of u in a bad way that’s where the problems step in. . And everywhere u go u will find a mixture of ppl the literate illiterate, rich poor and the list goes on..

I Have recently been chatting with a Jamaican lady born in 1987 who has be regaling me with stories of hers and life around her yard as a kid back home. I was quite fascinated by her life’s stories as it shares many similarities to mine as a kid…In the 60s.
Having left home some time in the 70s barely out of my teens I’m not at all sure when life changed for us here, but with every trip during the 80s it would seems as if Bajans were progressing by leaps and bounds even up to now. In spite of the progressive and upward trending of Barbados, many bajans were going off in droves to the USA, many women overstaying their time doing whatever it took to get ”straight” permanent residency. some of you sold your pokey or even gave it away as a means to an end. If these Jamaican women are catching hell home and they have to come to Barbados and sell pokey on the streets how is that any different from what bajans and other have done. Having said that, it hurts me to see any woman especially a black woman having to offer up her pokey for cash as a means to survive given her economic situation.

Please stop the rediculous bashing of the ladies, one is dead and the other have to live the rest of her life with the guilt. It may not be the ideal way to support yourself or your family but some of you who are rediculling these women, are out there patronising them on a regular basis and others are secretly doing the same on the downlow. Note I am not saying that it is right. As for those of you who are speaking a bunch of garbage about nationality and deportation and tax payers monies, come off your dammed high horses, some of WE Bajans have been doing it for eons in other countries under the guise of going shopping or on vacations. Those of you who for whatever reason were locked up in island prisons, that country taxpayers paid for your keeping until released, so cut the nonsense. We are no different from anyone else in the Caribbean.

I always say dismantling is the key to the destruction of any once GREAT NATION. If a CARGO SLAVE SHIP left the west coast of Africa loaded like Sardines taken from the same place, then drop the placid curtain lot in Barbados, then onto st. Vincent, then onto Grenada, Guyana etc like a monopoly. How in the hell name can the people be different NATIONS, and fictitious nations at that. But who do we blame for this lack of knowledge??? that good ole edication of HIStory. Changing identity, names, dress code, language, culture, (given white jesus too), nationality, hair and some even changing their skin color. Why would another nation do this????????????????????????????????????? There is more in the mortar than in the pestle.

    I will be blunt.

All of you who believe universal free movement within the Caribbean diaspora is a good thing need to have your heads examined.

I believe in means tested and family re-union immigration, not this free movement baloney for any and every Harry and Miley.

Barbados should stop turning a blind eye to the lowest of the low entering the country at will.

Non citizens of Barbados who are causing trouble by committing serious crimes should and must be deported. Don’t care if they are from Jamaica, Guyana, St.Lucia or St.Vincent.

Get them out before it is too late.

Its also for the same reason I don’t go on those four hour boat cruises anymore. I can’t run off to the sanctuary of my place at will.
If only you bajans had gone after this administration with as much venom for giving that sweetheart deal to that other Jamaicans foot wear man, then I wouldn’t think of you as a bunch of Ossie Mores.
