I killed him

A young man who has been on remand since his teenage years on a murder charge, today admitted to delivering the fatal stab wound to his 18-year-old rival.

Fachad Cadogan of Well Road, Wavell Avenue, Black Rock, St Michael, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Tristan Barker, who died on May 16, 2014.

But he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Cadogan, who is now in his 20s, entered the plea in the No. 5 Supreme Court this morning.

In his statement to police, he described what happened on the night between him and the deceased.

Principal Crown Counsel Aliston Seale gave those details to the court, saying the evidence showed “no doubt that there was bad blood” between Codogan and Barker.

Cadogan was on his way home around 9 p.m. when he saw Barker sitting on the steps of a house speaking to a young lady.

He told the police he and Barker were not on speaking terms as the deceased was allegedly “always troubling” him and a particular friend.

Cadogan had determined that the next time he encountered Barker he would tell him to “leave me and Stefan alone”.

According to the statement read by Seale, Barker apparently began to laugh when he saw Cadogan approaching. The young lady who was with Barker walked away and he stood and asked Cadogan: “Big man, wuh happen?”

Cadogan told Barker that if he wanted to do something, he could go ahead.

According to Cadogan, Barker took a rock from the ground and on seeing that, he went into his bag and pulled out a knife. He said Barker then rushed at him and “[I] juk at he with
the knife”.

Cadogan said he did not know what part of the body he “juk” Barker but he walked home, washed the weapon and broke it in two.

He told his mother what had happened and she in turn told his father and the parents then spoke with Cadogan.

Cadogan subsequently put the broken knife in a bag and threw it over a paling near his house.

The police arrived at his home sometime later and informed him that Barker had died.

Cadogan was arrested and he led police to the area where he had discarded the knife, admitting that it was the weapon he had used to stab Barker.

Barker died as a result of a single stab wound to the left side of his neck.

The young lady who was with Barker told police, in a statement, that there was no provocation on Barker’s part on the night of Cadogan’s attack.

Justice Jacqueline Cornelius ordered a pre-sentencing report into the life of Cadogan who is represented by attorney-at-law Andrew Pilgrim.

His sentencing hearing continues on May 22.

Now you see this, this is what I does be talking about with these so-called parents. Now your son come home and admit he stab someone, before you as the parent do the right thing. Now if that girl wasnt there as an eye witness to this murder, would they parents cover for they son? Listen I cringe at reading that part, this is the kind of parenting I am against. Let him face his consequences, he made the decision regardless of the situation. Hmmm parents get a wake up call hear stop this madness and upholding wanna children in wrong doing. Thats another womans son regardless of what he did, if it was your son that was killed both of you would have wanted justice. I would charge both parents. Stpzzzz madness.

I passed no judgement Like the same incident the other day with the guy who knocked the other guy around his head, now that was self defence right there and then, but that boy didnt retaliate same time. Its a difference, they are laws when you do.wrong you know. He is being charged for murder not defending himself at the said time.

What would have changed the circumstances of this very case were reports to the police about the daily interferences, taking matters into your own hands never ends well. His parents should have advised him of that, that would have been protecting their son.

manslaughter nah doh dis is premeditated murder!!!! it sounds like he purposefully approached barker because he knew he had a knife in his bag. then the young lady said barker did nothing to provoke him. he could have walked pass and gone home why stop unless he had a plan. he planned to kill that boy plain and simple his account leaves too many holes and unanswered questions. i maintain i feel sorry for him and for the victims family but he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law

Why was a knife in his possession in the first place? Shouldn’t a charge for carrying a concealed weapon also be added to manslaughter? This is extremely disturbing to read just because the deceased laughed when he passed he had to say something even though he knew they had a volatile relationship, he wanted something to happen…that much is obvious all he had to do was walk away and his life wouldn’t be forever stained by a totally avoidable confrontation.

What sort of justice system do we have here in Bim. How is it that you have an eye witness to a murder and you allow a man that commit murder to plea to a lesser charge without a court hearing. Only in Bim..

Now when you have children and they do wrong from young and you the parent cover up and do not let them take responsibility for their actions and neither do you as a parent, it comes back at you hard and even now you again for something more serious you cover up, it proves you have no right being a parent.

this is what yuh call an easy way out for the crown and the defence, start hanging these SOB who call themselves bad man, Mr. AG, restart the gallows, don’t wait until it reaches your door step, the late great TOM Adams used back in the 70s when death landed on his door step, the gallows was greased and running so he put it into action, two necks were popped. Mr. AG, the ball is in your court, we are going to ask for your stewardship and report card. you’ll be judged then.
