Bajans making waves
The highly anticipated Machel Monday came off Monday night during the staging of this year’s Trinidad and Tobago carnival. From all reports, it was phenomenal.
Themed The Journey of a Soca King, the show was all about unity, bringing together top artistes from across the region. Among the many performers on stage were long time Jamaican dance hall rivals, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer.
There was a huge Bajan contingent and the crowd loved it. The likes of Peter Ram, Stiffy, Marzville, Marvay, Rupee, Nikita, DJ Puffy and King Bubba graced the stage performing some of their hit songs.
The crowd’s reaction to both Ram’s and Marvay’s Good Morning and Know the Face, thrilled the many Bajan fans who were watching . They are anxiously looking forward now to seeing both artistes perform in the International Soca Monarch finals this Friday.
Bajan Vibes heard from Peter Ram shortly after his performance. He absolutely loved it and the reaction he got.
“Well, the feeling is different to All Ah We and you could see the difference by far. All the songs bad, but the Trinis stick on to Good Morning more than anything else. Every minute you’re hearing it due to the fact it’s saying ‘Trinidad ,Good Morning!’ It’s amazing for real,’ he said.
Ram added: “This one gone ahead for real. The people is who made this song big. It started with Bajans first, then reach to Trinidad. I can’t really explain the feeling. You have to be here to feel it.”
He also let a secret out of the bag with regard to his performance on Friday night. Ram said: “Pan will be included in my presentation for finals. You can be sure of that.”
He is now resting his voice ahead of the event.
