Demar remanded for attacking his brother with garden fork

A 52-year-old St Lucian man who admitted to unlawfully and maliciously wounding his brother on Christmas Day has been remanded to prison until next year.

Terrance Demar of Odessa McClean Drive, The Belle, St Michael pleaded guilty to the offence against Junior Demar.

According to prosecutor Sergeant Rudy Pilgrim, the brothers lived in close proximity to each other but Junior had to use a driveway next to Terrance’s home to gain access to his place.

The two got into an altercation on December 25 after Terrence began enclosing the driveway.

Terrance allegedly rushed towards Junior with a garden fork, piercing his brother’s left hand.

Pilgrim also informed the court that Terrance had no status in the country.

This was confirmed by an immigration officer who said the man had arrived here on January 7, 2007 and was granted a 14-day stay in Junior Demar’s care.

The magistrate asked: “Why are you trying to kill a man for passing across . . . I never see a dead man pulling a piece of land behind a hearse. Why you want to kill him for a piece of land that is not yours?”

Terrance replied: “He attacked me at my home. I had a fork. I never stop him from passing. I was just extending the [shed].”

The magistrate remanded Terrence in custody until January 10, 2017 after the court was informed by the immigration officer that he had no form of identification. Terrance told the court he had sent his documents to St Lucia to get his passport renewed in an attempt to regularize his status.

Anne Ince you are missing the point.

i hope you are not condoning his actions just because it was a garden fork and not a gun or machete as you put it. Tell me i am misunderstanding you please.

Deport them both. He failed to inform authorities of his brother’s continued presence here after having him as his guest. We probably granted him some sort of status / residency and he allowed his brother to stay, work without paying NIS or Taxes and it seems squat illegally too without paying land tax. Only informing of his status after this incident. Of course he wants to have him deported now, I’m saying deport them both. This is happening here for too long, they would be sent packing in any other country.

He is ungrateful, he needs to be sent back to St. Lucia, never to return, he and all the others who don’t have any status and looking for trouble.

Money, land, gold, jewels all vanity and you will die and leave it. Serious case of bad mind and jealousy. All it takes is for someone to trip up or a miss directed juck straight murder one. Can’t take it back, can’t say sorry, being ignorant is not a trait to be proud of. It highlights a high level of stupidity showing the lack to reason and a blatant disregard for consequences. it is a disease. Right now time giving away free and I ain’t want none. Only if it is self defence and I defending my queen or cubs from intruders. I would do it willingly….
