Perch on probation for $35 weed

A Bridgetown magistrate yesterday placed a young St Michael man on probation for a year and also ordered him to undergo drug rehabilitation.

The sentence was imposed on Darius Anthony Perch, 20, of #8 Regent Hill, Pine, St Michael, after he admitted to possession of cannabis.

The prosecutor told Magistrate Douglas Frederick that the Police Tactical Response Unit was conducting an operation in the Pine area on December 11, when they saw some people in the general area of Academic Sports Bar.

A strong scent of marijuana was permeating the air, and the crowd dispersed when they saw the police, but Perch remained.

That aroused the suspicion of lawmen who requested a search, which Perch consented to.

Thirteen paper wrappings containing vegetable matter were found in his pocket.

“This is my herb officer,” he told the police when asked to account for the drug, which weighed 7.5 grammes and had a $35 street value.

In the dock yesterday, he told the magistrate: “At the time, I had it for my personal use.”

Frederick then imposed the sentence after considering Perch’s early guilty plea and his antecedents.

Considering that alcohol was once illegal and now it is legal. It is silly to arrest a man for $35 of weed when the world is making it legal and we are so proudly backward.

Marijuana actually does the opposite of causing aggressiveness. It causes one to become calm, mellow, relaxed which is one of the reasons it is used medically. It’s Surprising how many people are still misinformed on the medical use, especially with the easy access to so much information out there.

It is true. Cancer patients use it. Some people just want to be difficult because they can be and ignorant because it is easier.

If weed wss making people aggressive they would be more agression bout here. Alcohol doing a better job.
I say unemployment is the biggest cause of that behaviour
Followed by ignorance and lack of good parenting from as early as in the womb. Children that dont get lovin from the beginning canbe from birth become weary of adults and psycholpathic.

The law needs to be changed to allow individuals to have possession of a small amount for personal use. It certainly would illiminate the unnecessary police work for such small amounts which is of no harm to he or society.

Why do ppl blame marijuana for the young ppl behaviours, when most of the time its cause what is going on around them that they rebel. First thing comes out of ppl mouth is the drugs in the brains got them aggressive. Stupse so I guess drinking alcohol makes u wanna go to church then n calm ur nerves. Its tru its being abused but stop blaming the youngster’s behavior on marijuana.
