No surety for drug accused

A 54-year-old man landed himself behind bars at the St Philip penal institution today after he was unable to secure a surety to post his bail.

Albert Peter Yearwood, of Garden Land, Country Road, St Michael, appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court charged with possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and cultivation of cannabis.

Appearing before Magistrate Douglas Frederick this morning, Yearwood pleaded guilty to possession and cultivation but told the court he was not guilty of the other two charges.

The offences are said to have occurred on December 11.

There was no objection from the police prosecutor Neville Reid to the magistrate granting him bail, but the accused had no surety.

As such, he was remanded into custody until December 16.
