Scrawl up plans for 2017

Crop Over 2016 is now in the rear view mirror and all soca junkies are looking forward to 2017 with baited breath.

From all reports, Crop Over 2016 was a success and a good time was had by all, including the Scrawl Up Crew and their many patrons during the season.

The group, hailing from Westbury Road,  held a series of fetes for the season, all of which were well attended.

One of the directors of Scrawl Up, Rodney Mason, told Bajan Vibes they had a great year and thanked everyone who supported them.

“It was awesome. We will be back again in 2017 bigger and better and different,” he said.

Mason, who was speaking at their annual Thank You fete, revealed that they have already started putting plans in place for next Crop Over.

“We have already started planning for next year. You always have to put the patrons first. We always think about pleasing the people first and work around the patrons,” he said.

However, Mason said they were still facing problems securing sponsorship and this was of great concern for them.

“Sponsors came on board, yes, but people are holding back. It wasn’t easy. You always need sponsors on board to assist. You cannot hold an event without the sponsors. But we are pushing ahead, we do it for the patrons,” he added.

One patron, who said he was a regular at Scrawl Up events, said he thoroughly enjoyed this Crop Over and was ready for next year.

“For me, Crop Over was good. The music was great. Appreciate the guys for bringing out quality music. Scrawl Up was great for sure. The Bashment Soca competition was a good idea too. Loved it. The tunes this year were great and I know Stiffy and the other guys are going to come just as hard next year.

“Want Lil Rick and Peter Ram to go back in social commentary too. The social commentaries were real good this year and I want to see them get better,” he said.
