Myriad of excuses

Romal Omar Phillips’ luck finally ran out today when Court marshals finally managed to apprehend the 20-year-old resident of Ealing Grove, Christ Church after he had managed to escape the court’s grasp for almost a year.

And despite providing several excuses to Magistrate Douglas Frederick as to why he did not attend court when scheduled, he was remanded to HMP Dodds until May 18 when he appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court this afternoon.

A warrant had been issued for Phillips’ arrest after he failed to turn up to court last May to answer charges of robbery and assault.

When he was brought to court clad in a black jeans and a flowered polo shirt, he presented a myriad of excuses.

He first told Frederick that he hadn’t been given a date to return to court on his last appearance.

Phillips then insisted that he had returned to court on a previous date attired in jeans, and had been told by a police officer that he was not appropriately dressed.

In his final attempt to avoid imprisonment, he said he had been given another date by his co-accused.

The magistrate however, did not believe any of those excuses and he was whisked away to the waiting prison bus.
