Emmy Award-winning journalist Doug Hoyte has been appointed as CBC’s new general manager

Doug Hoyte is headed back to the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). This time however, he’ll be returning as the boss.

A reliable source has informed Barbados TODAY that Hoyte has been appointed as the new general manager of the state run television channel.

Barbados TODAY was told that Cabinet has approved his appointment and his first day on the job will be Monday, April 18.

Hoyte is an Emmy Award-winning journalist, who previously worked at CBC as a news anchor.

He also served as Director of Corporate Communications at Almond Resorts in Barbados and St Lucia, as well as news director of WTOG-TV, St Petersburg, Florida.

Hoyte was also the lead-anchor for popular television show Morning Barbados.

He will replace Rodwell London, who had been acting in the position.

London will now return to his substantive post of Deputy General Manager.

    Congrats Doug!!!

Do something with that drab, dead place call CBC.

See if you can get some boutique(s) to give those news anchors proper outfits to wear at night and contract a proper make-up artist please. The ugly coloured dresses and skirt suits I see on the evening news does really hurt my eyes when the nights come.

These ladies don’t see how nicely the international news anchors dress and the sombre colours they wear that are aesthetically pleasing to the eyes???

Another thing, look upgrade that place to HDTV. When viewing CBC it does look so washed out and faded. In 2016!!!!

Agree with you ‘Coralita’ 100%. As a visitor to B’dos over many years I still find it hard to comprehend just how dreadful the programs and picture quality still prevail in 2016. HDTV and Digital are the way forward.

Typically, General Managers function by use of the resources placed at their disposal, in accordance with the policy directives set by their Board. In this case, such policy directives might, perhaps reflect certain political nuances originating at an even higher level. Thus, Board policies of a para-statal entity such as this, should not be confused with national and social objectives, though they are often -disingenuously – interpolated.
I suggest that no reasonable person should, realistically, hold his or her breath. I wish the gentleman, “Good Luck”.

Stay tuned: the “mood music” will become even more interesting.

On the fashion note, I find the news men are always well-dressed and in style. This year, the anchor ladies have improved greatly- they are looking beautiful and classy and their(new?) make-up artist is doing a great job. Color is important, universally and we can’t always have them neutral.

@Sherlock. Well, Sir try this on for objectivity: when Reudon Eversley was “head of news”…I offered almost exactly the same views!
Elementary…Sir. I suggest Consult wid Watson as to what “objectivity” actually consists of; swing, and come again.

The simple truth is that while C.B.C. was a logical and reasonable accoutrement when we started out on the road towards independence, it has long become an expensive political appendage …and even on that very thin justification, has long outlived its usefulness, particularly since the arrival of the social networks. An anachronism; plain, simple…and very expensive. Can you imagine “One anything” in Barbados…and yet not turning a profit?

Audio quality of interviews and press conferences sound 1950s too in Barbados. Always wind in the mix when you can buy these fuzzy things that go over the mic and get rid of that. In America you the people in hurricane reporting clearly, in Barbados a little small breeze like if a butterfly passing makes the mic sound like someone rubbing the mic vigorously wid sandpaper.

I will offer you my congratulations Douglas. You obviously appear to be a fitting and qualified candidate for this new role as general manager of the CBC. However I won’t hold my breath for any positive changes, however minimal they may be.
For since this corporation has tried to turn the tables on a deficit for too many years to mention the pllitical ties that each political party that exists in Barbados holds on this state run entity there will be very little to no change to this brand unless political pressures thrown at it in an undying effort to control the contents of the broadcast .
However Mr Hoyte I do believe that you have the capability totake that establishment to a better and positive .place
