Man to answer for drugs found in a barrel at airport

A 30-year-old man is due to appear in court here today on drug charges.

Police say Jevon Jason Richards of Princess Royal Avenue, Pine, St Michael went to the airport to collect a barrel on March 23, 2016. However, as the barrel was being examined in his presence by Customs officials, he ran away.

Upon further scrutiny, the barrel was found to contain 12 pounds of cannabis hidden in household and food containers.

Richards was later arrested and charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

He is expected to appear at the District B Magistrates Court.
