BL&P explains power loss

Barbados Light & Power has explained the cause of a 90-minute blackout experienced by customers in a number of parishes last night.

The power company issued a press release today indicating that the outage was due to a fault at its generation plant in Spring Garden.

It said the lights went out just before 8 p.m. and the blackout continued until 9:22 p.m.

The power outage affected customers in St Lucy, St Andrew, St Thomas and parts of St James, St Michael, St George, Christ Church and St Philip.

“Our engineers and technical crews worked to restore full power quickly and safely,” the release said.
