Two years for thief

COURT TODAY BLOCKJunior DaCosta Clarke did not utter a word today after he pleaded guilty to breaking into a house last month and stealing items with a total value of $3,160.

The 49-year-old repeat offender, from Maycock’s Road, Bush Hall, St Michael, appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court where Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant sentenced him to two years imprisonment.

As he had already spent time on remand at HMP Dodds, that amount would be deducted from the sentence.

The court heard that Clarke broke into Hussayn Burrowes’ home between January 28 and 29 this year and stole a gas bottle head and food stuff.

On January 28, Burrowes secured his residence and left. When he returned the following day, he realized that a section of his paling was gone, the back door was open and his property was missing from inside the house.

Investigations led to Clarke who admitted to police that he had the foodstuff and gas bottle head but never told them how he came by the items. None of the items was recovered.

Imagine having to pay a fine for wearing a camouflage cap. Is there another law in the world more stupid than this one.
