Student ordered to perform community service

COURT TODAY BLOCKA 34-year-old student, who pleaded guilty last Thursday to being in possession of a small quantity of cannabis and an offensive weapon, was today ordered to perform 180 hours of community service.

Christopher John Allistair Ifill, of Rock Dundo Park, St Michael, apologized to the court for his actions. The first time offender has to complete the community service by March 31 next year when he returns to court.

The court heard from prosecutor Sergeant Janice Ifill that the accused was in the Eden Lodge, St Michael area close to 10 p.m. last Wednesday when police stopped him.

He was wearing a hoodie at the time and the police questioned him about his whereabouts. While the officers were speaking to him, Ifill was seen placing something behind his back. When he was asked about it, he said it was nothing.

The officers subsequently discovered it was a marijuana wrapping. They also saw a bulge in his pants and after searching him, found a cutlass pushed inside his waistband.

According to the court evidence, Ifill told the police that he has a laptop computer and other items which he has to walk with and the weapon was for his protection.
