Woman discontinues rape case

COURT TODAY BLOCKA Christ Church man walked out of Supreme Court No. 2 a free man today, after the complainant in a matter against him said she no longer wanted to pursue the case. Justice Margaret Reifer therefore discontinued the case against Charles Antonio Greenidge and warned him not to come before the court again. Greenidge, at the time 21, of Block 2K Silver Hill, was accused of having sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 14, on June 28, 2010. When the complainant took the witness stand today, she told the court that she was 12 at the time, five years had since passed and she was no longer interested in going through with the matter. Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Donna Babb-Agard Q.C appeared on behalf of the Crown while attorney-at-law Dave Cumberbatch represented Greenidge.

Another victim of our slow injustice system. The girl has probably moved on with her life and does not wish to return to that place.

How sad that these poor victims can’t get any justice and continue to suffer while their predators go free. The justice system needs to change but who will do it ?

Wow!! Is it really up to her to make this decision? I thought since she was a minor and is still a minor that he would be penalized regardless of what.

My thoughts exactly. Really makes me nauseous to read about all these young girls being raped and the men being sent on their merry way to continue. There is a lot of sick people running this system.

I understand that it is difficult to prosecute without the victim’s co-operation and testimony.

The length of time it takes is the major part. I went through that mess and it got to a point that I just didn’t want to deal with it anymore. I was tired. Especially if you’re a person who hates to be in the spotlight for so long for something you had no control over and people on the outside making fun of you, the person’s friends or other people who know him threatening, taunting and blaming you whenever they see you, society judging and labeling you…you just get tired of it all and let it go.

It’s true, and by the time you have somewhat healed from the ordeal, they call you for the court case years later..you don’t want to go back through that, you don’t want a recount of the details you provided so you end up letting it go. It’s a messed up process.

There are also other circumstances that cause these girls to throw out the cases after a while but I will not go through that here.

Sisi Kitty Greenidge respect ya bravery and you should never had to go through such an ordeal in the first place but then don’t get any resolution because of a slow justice system you had no control over.
