Holder inspires St Catherine’s youngsters

Members of St Catherine’s junior cricket team, through the auspices of Co-operators General Insurance Company Ltd., recently visited that business’ headquarters at Collymore Rock, St Michael, and got the opportunity to interact with recently appointed West Indies Test captain Jason Holder.

Co-operators General Insurance has been sponsoring St Catherine’s junior team for the past two years. The youngsters, most of whom were accompanied by their parents, compete in the Inspire Sports competition. They reached the quarterfinals in 2014 and made the semi-finals this year.

Holder advised the players to train extremely hard and to pay attention to their nutrition. He further said he was encouraged to see so many parents present, adding that his parents have supported him throughout and expressed the view that parental support was integral to one’s success.

He also told the players that selectors pay attention to centuries and five-wicket hauls, emphasizing that they should always strive to perform at their best. The lanky all-rounder outlined to the youngsters how he prepared for games.

Holder emphasized to the juniors that it was always good to be surrounded by supportive and positive individuals.

Both players and parents also had the opportunity to ask Holder a number of questions.

Cheryl Forde, human resources and marketing manager of Co-operators General Insurance thanked Holder for attending and expressed confidence that his presence would inspire the team members to excel.

She also expressed her pleasure at the spirited question and answer session that followed among the players, parents and Holder.
