Day of fires in Black Rock

It was a day of fires at Black Rock, St Michael today, leaving three families counting their losses.

A timber house went up in flames and two vehicles were damaged on Thompson Road, Wavell Avenue, while several pieces of electronic equipment at two homes on Yearwood Road were damaged as a result of electrical fires.

Fay Worrell of Yearwood Road, Black Rock, St Michael told a team from Barbados TODAY that personnel of the Barbados Light & Power Co were trimming a breadfruit tree in the area when a power line was accidentally cut, triggering a power surge in her house.

“I was on my way to the fire in Wavell Avenue when I realized that my house was on fire. I returned home to find that my television, my stereo set, the Multichoice set and my carpet were on fire,” Worrell said.

Her neighbour Camella Mayers also reported damage to several pieces of household appliances as a result of the power surge.

Meanwhile, over in Wavell Avenue, a timber house was destroyed by fire, while a Toyota Hilux Sports Utility Vehicle and a Suzuki Ignus which were under repairs at Seepaul’s Auto Repairs were slightly damaged.
