Cadogan, Gittens into 100m semis

Barbadian sprinters Ramon Gittens and Levi Cadogan are into tomorrow’s semifinals of the 100 metres at the 2015 Pan America Games in Toronto, Canada.

Today at the Pan Am/Parapan Am Athletics Stadium, Gittens finished second behind the USA’s Beejay Lee in Heat 2 in a time of 10.03 seconds. Lee won the race in 9.99 while Kittitian Antoine Adams finished third in 10.11 seconds.

In Heat 3 Cadogan finished fourth in a time of 10.18 to book his place. The race was won by Trinidad and Tobago’s Keston Bledman in 9.95 seconds while Remontay Mcclain clocked 9.99 to finish second. Bahamian Shavez Hart was third in 10.13 seconds.

Meanwhile Heat 1 was won by Canada’s Andre De Grasse. De Grasse, son of Barbadian Alex Waithe and Trinidadian Beverley De Grasse, clocked 10.06 seconds. Jamaica’s Jason Livermore stopped the clock at 10.09 to be second and Cayman Islands’ Kemar Hyman was third in a time of 10.14.

The first four in each heat and the next four fastest have advanced to tomorrow’s semifinal. (WG)
