Former champions Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary and Milton Lynch are through to the semi-final round of the BICO-sponsored National Sports Council’s Primary Schools Football Competition.

Wilkie Cumberbatch who last won the title in 2013 were able to brush aside Hillaby Turners Hall 2-0 in this morning’s quarterfinal thanks to goals from captain Tajio James and Alex King at the Greens, St George playing field. Milton Lynch Primary also advanced compliments of Paul Clarke who scored the game’s lone goal against Cuthbert Moore.

Under overcast conditions Wilkie Cumberbatch and Hillaby Turners Hall played out an uneventful first-half that ended 0-0 at the break.

However in the second half Wilkie Cumberbatch played with noticeably more aggression, put together more passes and started to find more spaces in the Hillaby Turners Hall weakening defence. This eventually led to them taking the lead with an all important goal off the boot of James when a free kick was taken from the left side of the goal.

Then a couple minutes later James again ran with the ball through the middle but was dispossessed by Hillaby defenders, however King came to the rescue and played the ball to his right, dribbled past two defenders and took a shot wide of Hillaby’s goalkeeper Jayden Howell and into the back of the nets.

The other two semi-final spots will be determined this Thursday when St Cyprian’s Boys’ play St Stephen’s Primary at Briar Hall and St Gabriel’s take on All Saints at Bagatelle in the other quarterfinals.
