Visitor told to return, but don’t drive

COURT TODAY BLOCKAn American visitor pleaded guilty to four traffic offences when he went before acting Magistrate Alliston Seale yesterday.

Michael Leo Gittens, who is staying at Melbourne Apartments, Black Rock, St Michael, admitted that he drove without due care and attention, without reasonable consideration for other road users and that he failed to comply with a ‘stop’ sign and a ‘turn left’ sign on Monday.

The visitor came to Barbados on May 15.

According to Sergeant Neville Reid, just after 7 a.m. Gittens drove a hired car from Brighton Hill Junction across the road, on to Spring Garden Highway, without stopping or turning left.

In doing so, the 60-year-old crossed the path of another vehicle being driven by Stephen Bennett. Both vehicles had minor damage.

The Acting Magistrate fined Gittens $350 on the first charge and convicted, reprimanded and discharged him on the other three. The fine was paid.

“Mr Gittens, I wish you a good stay in Barbados and I hope you come again . . . but don’t drive,” Seale concluded.
