Alumni games postponed

The Alleyne School Alumni Association has been forced to postpone indefinitely the fourth edition of the Barbados Inter-Alumni Associations’ Athletic Championships which was scheduled to take place at the National Stadium on May 9. This is due to the suspension of activities which require the use of the stands.

In a press release today the organizers revealed they were financially unable to equip the stadium with the necessary chairs, tents, fencing and other fittings to meet the required standard to make the event possible and successful.

The organizing committee will continue to monitor the progress of the work being done at the Stadium before a decision is made as to whether the event will be cancelled entirely for this year.

The release noted the vision of the event remained as one that was to help create closer bond among Alumni Associations/Old Scholars Associations in Barbados, enhance school pride among the younger generation, and fill the void for competition for athletes who were no longer in the school system but who wished to continue in the sport.

Currently, there is limited competition in track and field for the majority of athletes between ages twenty and forty-nine years.

The competition is open to representatives of all Alumni or Old Scholars Associations of all public and private schools in Barbados.

Persons who have already registered will be contacted regarding refunds, but they are also free to contact the organisers at 245-2638 or e-mail asaabar@gmail.com.
