Adrianna Sobers died in an accident this afternoon.

The young woman who died in this afternoon’s accident along Black Rock, St Michael has been identified as 19-year-old Adrianna Sobers, King William Street, Nelson Street, the City.

Sobers, a former student of St George Secondary School, was the pillion rider on a motorcycle ridden by 23-year-old Kemar Jordan of Chapel Gap, Paynes Bay, St James.

She died at the scene.

Acting Assistant Superintendent David Welch confirmed that the bike was involved in an accident with two Transport Board buses driven by Walter Lewis, 47, and 51-year-old Christopher Edwards.

Jordan was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after suffering serious abrasions. An 18 month old child, a passenger in one of the buses, was also taken to the hospital.

That’s would be ur choice. She was on the back of the bike. He was following his friends going in between the buses. He could have waited for the buses to go. She didn’t have a choice he choose to be cocky and show off.

Dexter Squires comment implies that the size of the buses and the two bus drivers are to blame for the accident. That is unfair and ridiculous. The bus could be the size of a Volkswagon Beetle and the same thing would have happened. Only it would have been a car wheel the poor thing ended up under when the young feller decided to do a wheelie, rather than a bus’.

Nothing wrong with the buses! It was the riders lack of due care, use of common sense and consideration of his pillion.

Rest in peace Adrianna and Comdolences to the Sobers family.

The size of the buses have nothing to do with causing this accident. Whoever made that statement is obviously a pedestrian and not a driver on the roads of Barbados. Every single blessed day, there are transport buses traversing our roads and no accidents. What I have found it is that these drivers are more carefully than those who drive other public transport vehicles such as minibuses, ZR vans and privately owned trucks and cars. I feel safe driving amongst Transport Board buses and any other. Two Transport Board buses can comfortably fit traveling in opposite directions along any route they travel.

What this tells me is that the motor cycle was obviously not following the rules of the road. It suggests they were trying to squeeze between the buses. Or, overtaking where the other side of the road was not clear. These are thing I witness everyday by motorcycle drivers. I watch them go by doing their nonsense and say a prayer for them and others on the road but they are reckless, it is scary.

I sincerely wish this accident could have been avoided but with the recklessness I see everyday, I am not surprised it occurred.

Again, my condolences to the Sobers family.

Such an unnecessary way to die, as persons may say that this could have been avoided if she did not got on the motorcycle or the guy should not have been doing a wheelie but at the end of the day no one expected that to happen, not the young lady, the guy nor the bus driver as death can occur unexpected and we bajans need to realize this is reality and it can happen to anybody, one minute your here and the next your gone. My condolences to her family.

True, but why put yourself and others at even more risk. Just because I don’t know if something I do will result in death, doesn’t mean I should go do something inherently dangerous. Life short, why risk making it shorter with bad, dangerous decisions?

If you are going to push the limit, do it for something worthwhile, not for a thrill. That isn’t being just human, that is being irresponsible. All humans arent irresponsible, nor do we all feel the urge or need to push the limit.

And another thing, when thrill seeking motorcylists decide to push wanna limits, they should do it at their own risk and stop risking the lives of their passengers and other motorists. It is called being responsible and considerate.

I am a United States History major. The Wright brothers only put themselves at risk, not other people. They were scientists, not irresponsible young men playing on motor cycles. When you all wheelie in traffic you put others at risk. You doubt me. Read the head lines in this post. She didn’t kill herself, a “thrill seeker” did.

Why don’t catch planes? Do pilots of commercial airplanes have the insane urge to wheelie in heavy traffic too, seeking the ultimate thrill? I do not have anything against motorbikes. I have a friend whose I occasionally ride. I have a thing against young, inconsiderate idiots on motorbikes endangering my life on the road just so they could have a thrill. Moving on, because I am sure the fella driving the bike today had the same mindset as you, and look where it land him… And that poor, young woman…Hardears yah dont hear

how terribly sad ……….. NOT just for the young girl but also …. or even more so …. for the two drivers. I often wonder HOW the drivers of all the public transport busses ( and vans ) have the strength to do their jobs. The traffic is bad and they have the responsibility for so many people ….. But they still do their best. DO remember that when something sad like this accident happens …..

If death can occur unexpectedly, then why is this an unnecessary way to die? Everyone who drives or rides on the roads of Barbados ought to be cognizant of the dangers associated with doing so. Now, we would hate to hear that another younger person loses his or her life in this manner, but as you well know: this is the price we pay for living. And all we can say is to rest in peace; such wasted human potentialities. Note: riding and driving more carefully, we must and ought to encourage of course, but how does it change in any meaningful way the human potential to error?

When its not the gun,its a car ,its a bike everything seems so irresponsible ,stupid and sad. What we seeing continuously, day after day ,families loosing love ones and grieving..
Too late she is dead , nothing can be done to rectify this awful tragedy, but the driver of the bike ,should now be punish for his stupidity and recklessness, if as lead to believe, he was doing a wheely, first he should be charge for dangerous driving and sued by the young lady family, we need in Barbados to get more tough on people stupid behavior, which borders on that don’t care attitude , which the end product are grieving families. It seems as though no lessons are learnt from past every day disasters. we seems to be going backward, everything is getting worst as though we have no one running our country.

Let me add my two cents. I’m a biker. Those motorcycles are engineered to carry one person only. They were never designed to carry a pillion rider. She should not have been on the bike in the first place. But majority of these cross riders igrunt so no surprises here.

I have a teen aged son and he could’ve been killed in 2007. He ran accross the road and was struck by a van and everyone voiced their opinion and didn’t seem to care that that
we the parents of that little boy lying in the road was on the scene and honestly although some people meant well, their comments were not received well. A life was lost yesterday and i would like to offer my condolence to the family of the young lady that lost her life yesterday, you will be remembered in our prayers. I can only imagine how you are feeling now, i’ve been there three times……i could’ve lost my son in 2007, my nephew was killed in a car crash in 2012 on my birthday and my close friend who also lost his life in a car crash 07.04.15 may their souls R.I.P

Barbadians, we need to wake up. All of you are getting lost in the rider of the bike and the buses. Are you aware that the accident occurred on Good Friday? Do you know that there are higher powers that inject thoughts into our young people’s heads to make them do things to bring about incidents that are of benefit to others of the dark path? The rider and the girl are indeed victims of a larger plot. I will say no more. Ask God for the discerning eye and live holy lives.
