More cheer to Xavier

Nine-year-old Xavier Bertrand is still enjoying all of the wonderful gifts presented him last Friday by several companies in alliance with Barbados TODAY (BT).

When the BT team called on Xavier again yesterday, he was in good spirits and pleased to have visitors once more.

When the team approached the residence, Xavier was eagerly standing in the porch, with an ever-smiling and protective father Augustus Bertrand in the background, both hopefully awaiting what else we might have in store for the little one.

The BT team did not forget Xavier’s intentions on that unfortunate day of March 7 when he was shot in the head. He had been extremely excited, highly anticipating seeing the big Sandy Lane Gold Cup race, and wearing red to support Sir David Seale and his team. To give the aspiring jockey a bit of the Gold Cup winning moment, the BT team, in partnership with Taariq Boodhoo of BizNeedz, offered the elated Xavier a red T-shirt with the photo-finish of Sir David Seale’s horse Daunting David behind the winning Sayler’s Creek out of the United States.

A very pleased Xavier seemed almost eager to don the shirt, on accepting it.

It would be chef Gregory Austin, also known as Mad Chef, on hand with the BT team, who would was divert his attention with a celebratory surprise too. Chef Gregory, in a conjunction with Cost U Less, graciously offered his expert culinary services to cater for a party for Xavier and his close friends, at a date of his choosing.

The chef told Xavier’s mother Asha Haynes and his dad Augustus, that they could make the final decision if the party would be to celebrate Xavier’s birthday on October 4 or some other occasion of their choice.

Chef Gregory said Cost U Less general manager Joe and team, eager to contribute, on hearing of Xavier’s incident, thought of this special treat. Cost U Less will provide all the food supplies and drinks for Xavier’s party.

Not quite ready to go back into Bridgetown, Xavier is recuperating at home –– and reading and playing with all of his new toys; and now planning for his specially catered party.
